Kendo is a modern Japanese martial art of sword-fighting based on traditional swordsmanship (kenjutsu) with bamboo swords and protective armour. It is a physically and mentally challenging sport combined martial arts practices and values with sport-like strenuous physical activity. Player scores point if two out of three referees agree that he/she successfully make contact with the armour of the oppenent. Kendo competitions are usually a three point match. The first competitor who scores two points wins the match. If the time limit is reached and only one competitor has a point, that competitor wins.

The Kendo Club, HKUSTSU was founded in 1994. It belongs to Vajra Kendo Club created by Mr. YAN Tsz Kin. The Club aims at promoting kendo, providing healthy recreation and helping freshmen to adapt to new lives in HKUST. Outstanding Club Members will be recruited to be Members of HKUST Kendo Team and represent the University to compete in inter-varsity competitions. The Club is recognized to be one of the Sports Clubs with superb performance in HKUST.
