Inter-Varsity Sports Competitions

The HKUST sports teams are enthusiastic in participating in various inter-collegiate, local and international sports competitions. They bring home the trophies and awards, and most importantly, a broader vision of the world and life beyond campus.

To enable the HKUST student athletes to compete with their counterparts in sports events, the University joined the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China (USFHK) as a member in 1991. The main objectives of the Federation are to encourage sports participation and cultivate sportsmanship. In achieving these aims, inter-varsity competitions in 16 sports are organized each year for local students, including Athletics, Swimming, Badminton, Basketball, Cross-country, Karate, Soccer, Squash, Table-tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Fencing, Woodball, Taekwondo, Handball and Rugby. HKUST Sports Teams take an active part in these annual events. 

The USFHK also coordinates entry to the regional and international events organized by AUSF and FISU. Some students of the University were selected to participate in these events in the past years, which turned out to be a positive and valuable experience for these young athletes.
